Hello All, I have just bought a secondhand EGX-600 in excellent condition, sadly the software it came with isn't as good as the machine. I'm just wondering what software other owners of this machine are using, I mainly do control panels and have been doing them on an ageing Newing Hall TLC300 and thought it was time to update a little. I also wonder why Roland haven't developed the DR.Engrave program which could be a great little program, it's just lacking one or two features and would be ideal for what I want. Regards Richard.

Welcome to the forum. Your comment about the included software not matching up to the quality of the machine, is why we introduced EngraveStudio with the EGX350 and 360.
There are a number of very good engraving software packages around with direct support for the Roland range including packages from Vectric, CADlink and Delcam. You can download a couple of demo versions here and here. Most packages offer far more than you will need for control panel work, but some are easier to use than others if you have to do a lot of dials. Hello Peter, Thanks for the info, as a matter of fact I've been looking at Vectric Cut2D today, it looks an OK kind of program, the interface is a bit clunky and round the houses, so to speak, but it gets the job done I guess.
It looks as though the Roland Engravestudio is based on this software, am I right? And why doesn't the EGX-600 have good software bundled with it. I have Coreldraw X5 which I know like the back of my hand, so I am going to see how good it is at driving the engraving machine, when I have the time. Single line fonts are the biggest problem, but I have come across a few truetype fonts that will do the job.
The purpose of the post was to see what other egx-600 owners were using to do standard engraving, I realise this forum is new and not over subscribed yet, but I'm sure it will grow when the word gets out. Good to see Roland Staff taking part. Thanks again Richard. Hi Richard, I have an EGX350 with Engrave Studio and can reccomend it as a good piece of software.
(I was looking at Cut2D when buying my machine but it came with the software anyway). Microsoft office and home 2016 for mac. I am not sure if it will work on the EGX600 as Peter didn't mention it above.
If Cut2D is similar to this then I'm sure it will get the job done for you. Vectric are good at help and advise, and have a good furum also Not sure about any other software but you can inport AI and dxf files into EngraveStudio so that is quite easy to do, think it's the same for Cut2D also. Hello Neil, Thanks for the advice. I've been told by Tom King of Roland, that Engrave Studio won't work with the EGX-600 and avised me to try VCARVE PRO from Vectric which does, so have downloaded the trial and am working my way through it at the moment. The only bad thing I've found so far is that you can't change the character spacing, I have found how to kern pairs of characters but not the spacing of a whole word or line. Unless of course I've missed it.
I also know that it can be done if fitting text to a path, so can't understand why this has been omitted from such a versatile piece of software. As far as I can tell it looks as though Engrave Studio is based on or possibly adapted from Vectric software, so If I like I will probably buy. Hello Tom, Didn't realise you inhabited the forum.
I decided to join as I didn't think it was fair to keep bugging you.!!! Yes, I found the text to straight line workaround, but not really the way to do it I don't think. I wonder why the people who write these programs don't put the bog standard ways of doing the things in them before they start on the advanced features.
Anyway, I like the program, but it seems a little over the top for doing control panels, so still looking for a good engraving program with single stroke fonts.
